Denbighshire's best-known castles are Rhuddlan Castle, Denbigh Castle and town walls and Castell Dinas Brân, and the county also has several motte-and-bailey castles. The oldest with a known date is Tomen y Rhodwydd, from 1149. Cadw looks after three castles in the county.
